Trichotillomania
Stop Compulsive Hair Pulling with Fast Track Hypnosis

A lot of people reading this will have at sometime or other heard the expression "they were so worried / angry / grieving, they were ready to pull their hair out".

Hard as it is to believe, there is a condition that causes some people to actually pull out their hair, it is called Trichotillomania (pronounced: trik-oh-till-oh-may-nee-ah).

Trichotillomania - hair pulling, is a type of psychological condition that involves strong urges to pull out ones hair. Doctors originally believed the condition was very rare, but it is now estimated to be a chronic habit of over 8 million people, which affects more females than males.

It is surprising few Doctors have actually heard of this condition, but over the years I have treated hundreds of people with this particular  problem.
People with Trichotillomania pull their hair out at the root from various places such as the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, or pubic area, in fact anywhere where there is hair on their body.
Some people pull large handfuls of hair, which leave bald patches on the scalp or eyebrows, others tend to pull one strand at a time. Trichotillomania isn't just an ordinary habit that a person can easily stop, it's a type of compulsive behaviour.

Clients with Trichotillomania can have other compulsive habits, such as nail biting or skin picking, and possibly being depressed or anxious. Two recent clients I treated both had to seek help for this, as it was now affecting their everyday lives. One, a teacher, started pulling the hair just behind the ears, as it would not be noticed. She had very long hair and was able to disguise it with great effect. However, after a while this continued right across her whole scalp until she had no alternative but to wear a wig. Another, a young girl of twelve had pulled out all her eyelashes and was progressing onto her eyebrows. Her friends started to notice this and were teasing her about it.
